Bengaluru: A 50-year-old man suffering from persistent abdominal pain was successfully treated for a large mucinous tumor of the appendix at Medicover Hospitals, Hoodi, Bengaluru.
The patient had been experiencing pain across the abdomen and constipation for nearly one and a half months. As part of further evaluation, a contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) scan revealed a suspected tumor arising from the appendix in the right side of the abdomen and the right iliac fossa.
During surgery, doctors identified a large tumor measuring approximately 15×8 cm arising from the appendix. The peritoneum and the remaining abdominal structures were found to be normal.
The patient underwent a laparoscopic radical right hemicolectomy with end-to-side ileocolic anastomosis. The procedure involved removing the tumor along with the affected portion of the intestine and subsequently reconstructing the intestinal connection.
The surgery was performed under the leadership of Dr. Yamini Chitra V., Senior Surgical Gastroenterologist and GI Oncologist at Medicover Hospitals.
The procedure and postoperative period were uneventful, with no complications reported. The patient recovered well and has now returned to his normal and active daily life.
