With Bengaluru’s civic authorities having identified ten recurring flood-prone zones across the city, health officials are turning their attention to the disease risks that come with seasonal waterlogging. Standing water in low-lying areas creates breeding conditions for disease-carrying mosquitoes and raises the risk of water contamination in nearby residential zones.
Doctors are advising residents in these areas to avoid contact with floodwater where possible, keep drinking water sources protected, and seek medical attention promptly if fever or gastrointestinal symptoms persist beyond a couple of days during the monsoon months.
